Saint James Day 2025

Dear members and friends of our Order,

The feast day of St. James is celebrated on 25 July on the liturgical calendars of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, True Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, and certain other Protestant churches. As we celebrate Saint James’ Day today, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the core of what our Order stands for: preserving knightly traditions, norms, and values.

Saint James the Great, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles, is revered for his virtues of zeal, courage, and close discipleship. He was known for his fiery spirit, his presence at significant moments in Jesus’ ministry, and his martyrdom as the first apostle to be killed for his faith (Acts 12:2).

These virtues profoundly connect with our Order of Saint James. His zeal mirrors our passionate commitment to upholding the honour and principles of chivalry. His courage, evident in his unwavering faith even unto martyrdom, inspires us to face modern challenges with fortitude and integrity. Furthermore, his close discipleship to Jesus reflects the dedication and loyalty we expect within our ranks, fostering a strong brotherhood committed to shared ideals. In a rapidly changing world, these principles of honour, courage, and service remain invaluable.

Let’s use this day to consider how we can apply these timeless ideals in our daily lives and work.
